My favorite seasonal foods at the moment have to be the jersey royal new potatoes, wild garlic, dill, mint, radishes and scallops.
I’m so inspired by one of my all time favorite restaurants, just around the corner from me, ‘The Dairy’. It grows its own foods on the roof of the building and the menu consists of all these Yummies! I’m so inspired by this because my life’s dream is to one day have a sustainable house and to grow most of my own produce and source my meats and fish from trustworthy sources just like they do.
Just recently they opened up a small patisserie next door to the restaurant with sandwiches and salads. I LOVE IT! They also offer fig and apple chutneys, rooftop honey from their very own roof and amazing radishes, which are super in-season. I’m not sure there is much that gets me excited in my food life more then fresh produce! I bought a summer salad with fresh radishes, jersey royal potatoes, wild garlic, asparagus, peas, dill, olive oil and onion and it was unbelievably delicious! Talk about eating the Seasons’ finest!
As a kid my favorite things to eat around this time of year came from the garden of my Brother’s Grandfather. He grew tomatoes, cucumbers, and watermelon. Tomatoes were always my favorite and Watermelon always came in a close second. I would eat fresh tomatoes from the garden like an apple, sprinkling just a touch of salt before each bite. Mmmmm!
Nowadays I love Himalayan salt as it contains ten other nutrients besides salt or sodium chloride. One of the nutrients is iron, which is great for Mummys. Now I’m not saying salt is good for us but at least there is a better option then regular white (bleached) table salt. I do the same with Watermelon by sprinkling just a bit over it, as the salt brings out the flavor of the Watermelon. I know most of you must be thinking YUCK!! But give it a try! I swear it’s so tasty. I know the first time I heard about this I thought it was the most ridiculous thing I’d ever heard but I promise it’s worth it! You’ll be thanking me afterwards…. I hope!
For your taste buds:
Antioxidant Smoothie!
Start by juicing:
- Apples – aid digestion and help slow aging
- Beetroot – better stamina, improved blood flow and lower blood pressure
- Cucumber – fights disease and manages stress.
Tip: try a masticating juicer. It takes a bit longer to juice but extracts every bit of juice and ensures that you extract all the healthy, yummy nutrients.
Now pour the juice into a blender and add frozen blueberries, coconut yogurt and some aloe vera juice and blend away!
It’s super tasty and great if you are feeling a bit ill, need a skin boost or a nice burst of energy to start your day!
